A French chinoiserie bangle bracelet.

Fabulous chinoiserie style bracelet created in Paris France in the late 19th century, circa 1880. It was crafted with organic and orientalist motifs composed by bamboo tree patterns. Carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats, with brushed and textured finishes. It is accented with several elements imitating the leaves of bamboo which they are screwed from the backs of the bracelet and are set up with thirty-six European rose cut diamonds. The organic design of this bracelet is fabulous. We could categorize it as a very Avant-Garde one for its time, this is because the design of its decorative elements has a great influence from the beginnings of the artistic style of art nouveau and the transition from previous French styles. It is fitted with invisible three barrels hinge and a discrete push boxed security lock.

Diamonds: The bamboo leaves are mounted in a millegrain setting, with 36 old European rose cut diamonds, 0.92 carats, H color, SI-1 clarity.

Weight: 31.85 Grams, (20.42 Dwt).

Size: Fit a wrist up to 7 inches, (17.78 Cm).

Measurements: The width is 15 mm (0.59 Inches).

Hallmarks: Stamped with French marks; twice with the maker's mark GGRG inside a lozange cartouche and twice with the mark of the eagle's head for the assay and warranty of the 18kt gold. The fitted box is signed Maeght Dunkerque.

Chinoiserie and Orientalism

The term chinoiserie is from the French word chinois, meaning “Chinese” and refers to European artistic style that reflects the influence of China and is characterized by the use of Chinese designs, asymmetry, whimsical changes in size, the use of lacquered materials and abundant decoration. . Chinoiserie entered Europe in about the last quarter of the 17th century and reached its peak in the mid-18th century, when it was assimilated by Rococo.

Collateral: This bracelet is accompanied by the original antique presentation jewelry fitted box.
