Sculptural ring designed by Dinh Van for Cartier.

A stunning very rare ring, created back in the late 1960's by the artist Jean Dinh Van for the house of Cartier. This sculptural piece has been crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished finish. This ring is part of the Cartier collection called Astrales. The fabulous design is made up of two oval plates semi bent towards the outside, which are holding two spheres of different dimensions in suspension. This astral representation simulates the planet earth and its moon.

History

This ring it belongs to the period of 1969 and 1970. In 1969, Michael Thomas became president of the New York City branch and was instrumental in hiring young designers who modernized the company’s lines such Cesar, Aldo Cipullo, Jean Dinh Van, Roger Lucas, Jean Mahie, and Lisa Sotilis. On October 03,1969, Cartier launched a collection of about 200 jewelry pieces entitled, Astrological, Underwater and Geometric, all designed by these young designers. We are sure this unique ring could be part of the pieces exhibited in that event.

Dinh Van - Editorial Article – Broken English Jewelry

Jean Dinh Van, is a French designer, that was born in 1927 from a French-Vietnamese family. His successful career started behind the workbench at the French jewelry house of Cartier in 1946 and then work for Pierre Cardin. In 1972 he started his own company and the followed years his revolutionary designs and style caught on quickly and launched him to the forefront of the jewelry and fashion world. All his designs are very geometric and modern, both, his original vintage pieces created for Cartier and the contemporary creations are highly collectible. Dinh Van pieces are very fashionable, sophisticate and easy to wear, also can be displayed as a small toys, sculptures and "Objets du Vertu".
