Gorgeous artistic piece of jewelry, created during the mid-century period by Wander France. This versatile colorful pendant brooch was individually assembled and carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats, with white gold accents for the diamonds settings. Suited with a special hook to wear into a chain or beads necklace and a horizontal pin bar with a lock to be used as a brooch.
Mounted in the center in a four-prongs setting, with a round cabochon cut (36 x 36 x 10 mm) of a vivid blue-green opal of 78.7 carats.
The main gem is embellished around with 64 natural precious stones, all of them are mounted in four-prongs settings and arranged in three rows in a staggered fashion radiating towards the center and pointing to the opal gem. All gemstones are calibrated in color and size, they are described as follow;
14 pear cut of Colombian green emeralds, 11,92 carats.
21 pear cut of blue sapphires, 26.25 carats.
18 pears cut of red rubies, 22.5 carats.
11 round brilliant cut diamonds, 1.98 carats, F/G color, VS-2 clarity.
Has a total weight of 67.7 Grams and a measures of 92 mm by 65 mm (3.62 x 2.57 Inches).
Stamped, with the maker's mark, the gold assay hallmark and signed, "WANDER FRANCE".
Robert Wander, was born into a jewelry family who owned salons in New York City and Paris, as well as jewelry concessions in fine department stores though out the American southwest. After serving as president of his family firm for a time, he set out on his own and began producing his own designs under the name of Wander France and later Winc Inc.
Wander is remembered by fellow designers as a pioneer in jewelry creation who sold his work through some of America's finest jewelry galleries and department stores for over 40 years. He was among the first designers to travel to Hong Kong in the mid-1980's to find ways to produce fine jewelry at a very high level of craftsmanship, while making it available to a much broader audience. Along the way he helped found a jewelry production house, DWL, in Hong Kong, which would rise to global renown owing much to Wander’s challenging designs.
