A rare vintage pair of ear-clips created by Claflin in the early 1970's. They are crafted in solid 18 karats yellow gold and suited with a pair of hinged French omega backs. Embellished with cabochons cuts of natural green chrysoprase and carnelian
This pieces have a total weight of 21.5 grams and a diameter of 20 mm (0.79 inch).
Serially numbered and stamped with the hallmarks, "TIFFANY & CO. 18 KT 21317".
Donald Claflin (1935-1979) was an American jewelry designer most associated with the colorful and whimsical designs he created for tiffany & co. During the sixties and seventies. His start in jewelry came when he joined the firm of David Webb, known for their buoyantly enameled figurative jewels that were a fresh contrast to the formality of the fifties. In 1965 Claflin was hired by Tiffany & Co. to continue in the innovative and individualistic design approach that designer Jean Schlumberger had so successfully established at the firm.
