RIPLEY & GOWAN 1920 Art Deco Guilloche Enamel Lighter In .925 Sterling Silver

This is a very rare beautiful early 20th century enameled pocket petrol lighter, created by the Ripley & Gowan Company, back in the 1920. The beautiful art deco lighter was carefully crafted with impeccable details in solid .925/.999 standard silver with engraved finish and engine turned guilloche which are decorations, which are topped with applications of translucent light yellow enamel and embellished with a basket bouquet of rose roses and a pair of dangling garlands. The lighter is fitted with a spring push boxed lock and two hinged bars.

Measurements: 45 mm by 40 mm by 15 mm (1.77 x 1.57 x 0.59 Inches).
Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark inside a heart lock cartouche, two times with the mark for the assay of the silver and signed, "R&G CO. STERLING".
Ripley & Gowan Company
This company f Ripley & Gowan Co. was established in 1874 and incorporated in 1921. They was located at 67 Mechanic Street in Attleboro, Massachusetts. In 1968, the company was acquired by Barrow Industries, and then in 1981 by JED Industries. R&G marketed jewelry lines in the names of R&G, R&G Co., La Mode, and the R&G letters within a padlock. The earliest compacts date from the 1920's. They manufactured, compacts, boxes, lighters and jewelry and were very famous for their enameled pieces.
