MEDUSA Art Nouveau Sculpted Portrait Pendant-Brooch In 18Kt Gold With Diamond
An art nouveau pendant brooch with sculpted portrait of Medusa.
This is a fabulous pendant-brooch created in Europe between the 1890 and 1900. The gorgeous jewelry piece depicts the portrait of Medusa looking forward, highly sculpted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with chiseled, engraved and frosted finishes. The level of detail is superb with perfect proportions and exceptional craftsmanship. Where it stands out in the sober expression of his face and her magnificent hair with waves and twists intertwined with multiple snakes.
The portrait of Medusa, is a Classical symbol that has become a fashion statement. In the Greek mythology is stated that Medusa was created by the gods to protect and that’s why the conqueror Perseus was trying to defeat her. Then Goddess Athena placed her on her shield do use that secret power. As a symbol of art in fashion medusa is used by famous fashion houses and often seen in artwork, clothing, paintings and jewelry.
The brooch is decorated with a very fine natural white colorless diamond and is fitted at the reverse with a concealed hook to wear as a pendant in a chain and a hinged horizontal bar to wear as a brooch. This is a fabulous piece of jewelry with remains of the reddish patina still intact.
