A geometric Tulipe Asymetrique cocktail ring designed by Jean Dinh Van for Cartier.

Exceptional, extremely rare and a one-of-a-kind piece, created by the Parisian jewelry designer Jean Dinh Van for the house of Cartier, back in the 1960's. This gorgeous sculptural geometric cocktail ring is called Tulipe Asymetrique. It is a prototype and an unique piece, crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats, with white gold accents prepared for the setting of the diamonds. All the surfaces are finished with very high polish.

This sophisticated design synthesizes the architectural geometric style that characterizes Dinh Van. The daring piece incorporates the composition of two geometric elements.

It is mounted on top, with a round flat plaque and a round cabochon cut (2.85 carats), carved from natural Afghani blue lapis lazuli. The sides are pave set, with 36 calibrated round brilliant cut diamonds, with a combined weight of 3.24 carats, D/E color, VVS-1 clarity.

It is pretty large, with a total weight of 28.95 grams. The actual size is 6.25, can be sized. The three dimensional measurements are 26 mm by 32 mm by 43 mm (1.02 x 1.26 x 1.69 Inches) and raise 27 mm over the finger. 

Stamped, with the maker's mark, the hallmark for the assay of the gold, the serial numbers and signed, "CARTIER DINH VAN 18KT 185".

Dinh Van - Editorial Article – Broken English Jewelry

Jean Dinh Van, is a French designer, that was born in 1927 from a French-Vietnamese family. His successful career started behind the workbench at the French jewelry house of Cartier in 1946 and then work for Pierre Cardin. In 1972 he started his own company and the followed years his revolutionary designs and style caught on quickly and launched him to the forefront of the jewelry and fashion world. All his designs are very geometric and modern, both, his original vintage pieces created for Cartier and the contemporary creations are highly collectible. Dinh Van pieces are very fashionable, sophisticate and easy to wear, also can be displayed as a small toys, sculptures and "Objets du Vertu".

History: On October 03, 1969, Cartier launched a collection of about 200 unique jewelry pieces entitled astrological, underwater, and geometric, all designed by young designers such; Jean Dinh Van, the Canadian Roger Lucas and Aldo Cipullo, with a two-week exhibition at its flagship boutique in New York. This rare ring it belongs to the same period of 1969 and 1970.
