TIFFANY & CO. 1970 Schlumberger Clips-On Earrings In 18Kt Gold With Malachites

Clips-on earrings designed by Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co.

This is a beautiful pair of clips-on earrings, created in New York city by Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co., back in the 1970. They were crafted in oval bombe shapes in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high textured finish and embellished with two naturals green malachite. They are fitted at the reverse with posts for pierced ears and comfortable omega backs for fastening clips.

Malachite: Mounted in bezel settings, with 2 oval cabochon cuts (8 x 6 x 5 mm) carved from natural green malachite, with a combined weight of about 3 carats.

Birthstone: Malachite. for the month of May.

Weight: 15.20 Grams, (9.75 Dwt).

Measurements: 18 mm by 16 mm by 9 mm (0.71 x 0.63 x 0.35 Inches).

Hallmarks: They are both stamped with the maker's mark, the mark for the assay and warranty of the 18kt gold and signed as follows, "TIFFANY & CO. 18KT SCHLUMBERGER".

Jean Schlumberger

In 1956, he was asked by the president of Tiffany & Co. Walter Hovin to begin designing for the firm. He had his own workshop at the company until his retirement in the late 1970's and was eventually made vice president of the company. Schlumberger designs at tiffany were remarkable for their whimsical interpretation of natural forms. He was especially inspired by the sea creatures and other animals. He was an exceptional designer, jeweler and a master enameller.
