TIFFANY & CO. 1970 Paris Schlumberger Earrings In 18Kt Gold Diamonds And Sapphires

Clips-on earrings designed by Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co.

This is a beautiful pair of clips-on earrings, created in New York city by Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co, back in the 1970. The exceptional earrings were crafted in oval bombe shapes in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with polished finish and are fitted at the reverse with retractable hinged posts and comfortable omega backs for fastening clips. They are embellished with a great assortment of one-hundred-fifty-eight earth mined natural gemstones, such vivid intense yellow sapphires and white colorless diamonds. 

Diamonds: Mounted in pave setting, with 92 calibrated round brilliant cut diamonds, with an approximate total weight of about 1.84 carats, white colorless E/F color, VS clarity.

Sapphires: Mounted in pave settings, with 66 calibrated round faceted cut of natural vivid intense yellow sapphires with an approximate weight of about 3.96 carats.

Birthstone: Yellow sapphire for the month of September.

Weight: 20.3 Grams, (13.05 Dwt).

Measurements: 22 mm by 20 mm by 7 mm (0.87 x 0.79 x 0.28 Inches).

Hallmarks: They are both stamped with French marks; the maker's mark PB inside a lozenge cartouche, the mark of the eagle for the assay and warranty of the 18kt gold and signed in full as follows, "TIFFANY & CO. .750 FRANCE SCHLUMBERGER".

Jean Schlumberger

In 1956, he was asked by the president of Tiffany & Co. Walter Hovin to begin designing for the firm. He had his own workshop at the company until his retirement in the late 1970's and was eventually made vice president of the company. Schlumberger designs at tiffany were remarkable for their whimsical interpretation of natural forms. He was especially inspired by the sea creatures and other animals. He was an exceptional designer, jeweler and a master enameller.
