Pair of Italian dangles drop earrings in the Chinoiserie style.

These are a colorful pair of dangles drops earrings created in Italy with Chinoiserie-Orientalism patterns. The earrings were masterfully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished finish and embellished with a great assortment of sixteen natural carved gemstones, such pink-red corals, blue lapis lazuli and green jades and accented with twenty natural white colorless diamonds. They are fitted at the reverse with retractable posts for pierced and non-pierced ears and comfortable omega backs for fastening clips.

Chinoiserie and Orientalism

The term chinoiserie is from the French word chinois, meaning “Chinese” and refers to European artistic style that reflects the influence of China and is characterized by the use of Chinese designs, asymmetry, whimsical changes in size, the use of lacquered materials and abundant decoration. Chinoiserie entered Europe in about the last quarter of the 17th century and reached its peak in the mid-18th century, when it was assimilated by Rococo.
