These are a fabulous colorful pair of clips earrings, created in America during the modernism period, back in the 1970. The earrings have been crafted with hoops shapes in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with polished finish. They are embellished with two gorgeous well matched unspotted sleeping beauty blue turquoises and sixty calibrated white colorless diamonds. They are fitted at the reverse with hinged omega backs for fastening clips and the addition of gold posts for pierced ears may be easily installed on special request.
Sleeping Beauty Turquoises
This kind of turquoise is noted for its solid, light blue color with no matrix. The host rock is granite. Sleeping Beauty turquoise is the favorite of Zuni Pueblo lapidaries and silversmiths for the purity in color. This mine was one of the largest in North America. Since the early 1970s, this mine was a major producer of turquoise. Artisans and jewelry companies love Sleeping Beauty Turquoise for its lack of matrix and reliable even color. This mine is still active and currently produces copper. The Sleeping Beauty turquoise mine was named after the mountain range where it is located, which from a distance is said to resemble a sleeping woman with her arms crossed. Increased government regulations and mining costs led to the mine's closure in 2012.
