CARTIER 1973 By Aldo Cipullo Clips On Earrings In 18Kt Gold Rock Crystal & Carnelians
Pair of ear-clips designed by Aldo Cipullo (1936-1984) for Cartier.
This is a fabulous pair of ears-clips created in New York City by the jewelry designer Aldo Cipullo, back in 1973. These geometric earrings are very rare and are the oversize model, designed during the Cipullo's collaboration period with the jewelry house of Cartier in New York City between 1969 and 1975 as a designer. The pair of earrings are from the iconic "Circles" collection and were carefully crafted in solid 18 karats yellow gold with a high polished finish. The yellow gold parts hug circular elements, which are carved from natural frosted rock quartzes and are gripped from the back by two concealed screws. The centers are embellished with six well matched carvings of translucent vivid orangish-reddish carnelians. The earrings are fitted at the reverse with comfortable hinged French omega backs for fastening clips, and the addition of gold posts for pierced ears can be easily done.
Carnelians Mounted in channel settings, with 6 calibrated sugarloaf cabochon cuts (5 mm) of natural translucent carnelians, with an approximate combined total weight of about 42 carats.
Weight: 48.5 grams (31.10 Dwt).
Measurements: 34 mm by 32 mm by 16 mm (1.34 x 1.26 x 0.63 inches).
Hallmarks: They are both stamped with the maker's mark, the date of production, the mark for the assay and warranty of the .750/.999 yellow gold, the five-digits serial numbers and signed in full as follows, "CARTIER 1973 ©A. CIPULLO 18KT 22563".
Aldo Cipullo
He was an Italian born jeweler. He born and was raised in a family of designers with jewelry traditions, his father was the owner of a jewelry factory and his brother Renato Cipullo made jewelry designs for Christian Dior. Aldo, was the creator of the popular and iconic Cartier bracelets, love and the nail, still until today considered ones of the best designs of the 20th century. He work as a designer in New York, for David Webb (1960-1969) and Cartier (1969-1975). In 1975 he found his own company as a freelance designer.
