Stuart Devlin 1973 London Sculptural Modernist Earrings In 18Kt Yellow Gold With Malachite
Modernist clips-earrings designed by Stuart Devlin (1931-2018).
Beautiful pair of clips, created by the late Australian-British based artist, designer and goldsmith Stuart Devlin. These unique pieces, was crafted in London in 1973 in solid 18 karats of textured yellow gold. Suited with omega backs for fastening clips and the posts option for pierced ears can be easily added.
They are embellished in the center, with a pair of round cabochon cuts (13 mm) carved from natural green malachite.
The total weight is 17.8 grams and the average diameter is 22 mm (0.87 inches).
They are both stamped at the backs, with British hallmarks, for the city of London, the letter s for the creation date 1973, the maker's cartouche mark SD for Stuart Devlin and "18" for the gold assay.
Stuart Devlin, (1931-2018) was an Australian born artist, based in London, England since 1965. In his early days, Devlin was principally known as a silversmith, turning to jewelry design further down the works. His works whether in silver or jewelry, is characterized by filigree and patterns of openwork reticulation. He was appointed goldsmith and jeweler to the queen Elizabeth II in 1996 and was the designer of the Australian decimal coins & medals. In addition he created many pieces for the actress Elizabeth Taylor. His works are exhibited in the permanent collections of, the Victoria & Albert museum and the Royal Collection in Buckingham palace.
