Retro modernist Italian brooch.
Very handsome unusual piece, created in Italy during the immediate postwar period, back in the 1950. This elusive colorful brooch has been carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with textured and incissed finishes. Fitted at the reverse with a hinged pin bar and a mechanical safety lock and it is mounted with a great selection of natural earth mined gemstones.
Diamonds: Mount in four-prongs settings, with 14 round brilliant cut diamonds, 1.26 carats, white colorless F/G color, VS-2 clarity.
Sapphires: Mounted in prongs settings, with 14, graduated round cabochon cut of natural royal blue sapphires with 4.96 carats, The sapphires are very fine from the Pailin mines in Cambodia (Kashmir look), they are translucent, vivid blue and are not heat or treated in any way.
Sapphires: Mount with 2 briolette cabochon cut of natural blue sapphires, with an approximate of 8.56 carats.
Emeralds: Mount with 3 briolette cabochon cut of natural Colombian green emeralds, with an approximate of 7.90 carats.
Birthstone: Sapphires for the month of September and emeralds for May.
Weight: 31.95 Grams, (20.48 Dwt).
Measurements: 65 mm by 46 mm (2.56 x 1.81 Inches).
Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark and the mark for the assay of the gold, "18kt".
Note: The blue sapphire like the ones in this brooch are from the Pailin region in Cambodia. They are extremely rare and actually the mines are exhausted, the only way to found in the today's market is from old stocks or antique jewelry like this piece. Cambodian blue sapphires rivalize in color and quality with Kashmir sapphires.
