Modernist sculptural necklace designed by Oswaldo Guayasamin (1919-1999).

Awesome one-of-a-kind piece of art, created by the Ecuadorian sculptor and painter Oswaldo Guayasamin, back in the 1966. This ultra-modern very rare necklace was crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats and finished with textured and hammered surfaces. The rigid collar is suited at the back part with a hinged security element that perfectly fits on a wheel.

The main drop element is mounted, with one rectangular step cut (10 x 16 x 7 mm) of a natural Brazilian vivid green tourmaline of 8.79 carats.

Has a total weight of 58.9 Grams and fit a neck up to 15 Inches (38 Cm). The main sculptural drop element have a measures of 181 mm by 75 mm (7.13 x 2.95 Inches).

Stamped, with the maker's mark, the gold assay hallmark, the date of production and signed, "GUAYASAMIN 1966 18 KT".

Oswaldo Guayasamin, was born in Quito, Ecuador in 1919. He created a Pan-American art of human and social inequalities which achieved international recognition. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Quito as a painter and sculptor. He also studied architecture there. He held his first exhibition when he was 23, in 1942. He won the first prize at the Ecuadorian Salón Nacional de Acuarelistas y Dibujantes in 1948. He also won the first prize at the Third Hispano-American Biennial of Art in Barcelona in 1955. In 1957, at the Fourth Biennial of Sao Paulo, he was named the best South American painter.

Provenance: Acquired in 1970, directly from the artist studio in Guayaquil Ecuador. A private collection in Palm Beach FL.

It is in perfect vintage condition, with gorgeous look.
